I'm baffled as to why you've posted three different threads promoting your own playing, most of which is not of classical music. If someone had any commentary to offer about your interpretations, they would have already done so but, seeing as the only classical piece you "play" is Fantaisie-Impromptu, this should be posted in the non-classical forum anyway... But that's just my two cents.

Four threads now!

Boy you guys are tough. This is a new PW member! I only listened to the Ballade so far and enjoyed it. Nice gift for your friend. Here is a quote from his post on youtube "I hope to know more people who plays piano or love piano from Singapore and from all over the world." Seems obvious that someone is excited about a piano forum and wants to participate and contribute. BTW Hanlin, there is a section of PW where posters also leave recordings. It is called the MEMBERS RECORDINGS. If you go towards the bottom of the page where it says GO and scroll, you will find it. There is also another section of PW where members chat about music other than classical (this part is more about classical) called Pianist Corner - non Classical. And welcome!

There really aren't any official rules as to what constitutes an appropriate post. Typically, though, you'll have better luck getting people's attention, advice, and critique if you contribute first. We get a fair number of requests for advice and criticism from people who never reciprocate.
So please stick around and join in the discussions. I think you'll find that once we get to know you a bit, we're always happy to help!

Hanlin,
May I offer some gentle commentary on the Pirates piece?! You've really got the chops for it. Your precision is remarkable, especially at that speed. You've got the piano part up to just about the speed of the orchestral sound track, and that's saying a lot. You've also got excellent pedal control. That's an easy piece to drown in pedal, which makes it a mess.
But I think you could do much more with it if you thought through the entire piece, and planned for how to interpret its structure. Essentially, you played an aggressive forte throughout. Exciting, yes, but might there be some payoff from something as simple as playing the middle theme more softly and building back into forte as the main theme returns. The version my son used actually had a fair bit of dynamic markings in it, as I recall. The same idea (thinking through the structure) could be applied to phrasing and articulation as well. Some parts of the piece may work well if played slightly more legato, if for no other reason than it gives the ear a change from the aggressive rat-a-tat of the extremely forward-charging rhythm of the piece.

I agree with LilyLady, a young talented person is eager to meet more pianists, and it would be nice if we could all be gentle in our comments.
Although I listen to, and play only classical music, I found some of the compostions that Hanlin played gave me an introduction to some music that is very lovely, and enjoyable.
Without his generous sharing of his playing, this entire area of music would be totally unknown to me.
Enjoying these compositiions does not in any way diminish my love of Bach, Beethoven, or Schubert.
Welcome Hanlin. and thanks for introducing me to some new and beautiful music. Gaby Tu
